Don Gwynne, an air accident investigator from Arlington, Texas, USA, who visited Skye on a much sadder occasion (see Accident of F-111), was so smitten with the island that he later returned while on holiday. The island once again made such an impression that Mr. Gwynne named his Border Collie... what else but Skye.

As well as holding two American Kennel Club obedience titles Skye, as a member of the "People and Canines" (PAC) flyball team, is holder of four North American Flyball Association titles.
