The International Otter Survival Fund (IOSF) was inspired by observing otters in their true natural environment. Because the otter lives on land and in the water and is at the peak of the food chain it is an ambassador species to a first class environment. IOSF was set up to protect and help the 13 species of otter worldwide through a combination of compassion and science. It supports projects to protect otters, which will also ensure that we have a healthy environment for all species, including our own.

IOSF has taken over the running of the Broadford Tourist Office. This is being run as a wildlife information centre and is drawing a lot of visitors who are interested in the special wildlife of Skye. If you are visiting Skye do call in and find out more information on the general wildlife but also about the otters in the Sanctuary.

IOSF supports the following work:

  • Funds otter research and conservation programmes worldwide.
  • The prohibition of hunting and the enforcement of wildlife laws to protect otters.
  • Organises public education programmes to develop support for otter conservation.
  • Supports otter rehabilitation facilities for orphaned, sick or injured otters.
  • Organises the annual WILD CARE (Formerly WILD AID) conference on wildlife rehabilitation.
