Geoff Holman, freelance copywriter, has teleworked on Skye for more than 10 years. In former incarnations he was variously an industry journalist (polymers), an ICI publicity executive and an agency copywriter. Subsequently he decided it would be better to go prematurely grey on a romantic Scottish Island than just off the A1(M)'s Black Cat Roundabout.

Home is now Balmaqueen, near Skye's northern tip, where Geoff fields briefs on everything from USDAW, the shopworkers' union, to vegetarian sausages, and from geographic information systems to 4GL RAD software. When the fax and e-mail run less than white hot he fills in as a technical abstractor of articles on packaging and recycling.

Hooked on teleworking, Geoff likes the clash between remoteness and the immediacy of modern communications. He reckons it's the perfect alternative to spending large amounts of ones adult waking life in a traffic jam. "Give me a scenery jam any day," he concludes.
