SLIGACHAN (Gaelic: Place of shells)
In the 1800s Sligachan was one of Europes most popular areas for climbing. The Cuillins arestill popular with walkers and climbers, but in the 19th century people came in large parties towalk, climb, fish and draw. In the 1700's large cattle markets were held in Sligachan. The first one, initiated by ColonelMacLeod, was attended by 4000 people. 1400 head of cattle and 200 horses and ponieswere sold.
