INVERARISH (Norse: River mouth settlement)
Raasay was originally the territory of theMacLeods of Raasay, however in 1846 the MacLeod in residence was forced by financial difficultiesto emigrate to Australia. The new owner forced over 120 Raasay families to emigrate so he coulduse their land for sheep.More recent owners mined the land for its iron deposits, this practicewas abandoned shortly after the Second World War. The ruins of the old Iron mine lie roughly 2 miles along the road to North Fearns.

SUISNISH (Norse: Seething point)
The small car-ferry plies its trade between the jetty at Suisnish Point and Sconser on Skye.
